1992 Volvo 244 automatic Transmission with overdrive- mileage 170K - only one vehicle.
The shifter "locks" up about every other time a person puts it into park. If you flip the lever to
unlock it --- it may work it may not -- you have to play with it or take both thumbs to force the button down to unlock it. So, I just leave it in neutral and pull the parking brake. I understand if you jam the shifter lever hard it will lock it up but in this case no matter how gently a person shifts it it locks up.
I am guessing the "shift lock solenoid" needs to be replaced.
Questions: Am I on the right track? Where is the solenoid located? The diagrams in both books are not very good if I have to take the shifter apart. Is their a better diagram somewhere? The only solenoid I see is the overdrive solenoid on the transmission but this is not the "shift lock solenoid" is it?
Have looked it both the Haynes and blue Volvo service manual. But, I can not seem to find the location of the shift lock solenoid.
Thanks,
Rob
Update: Replaced shift lock sooenoid - Problem solved.
