2008 S40 2.4 5 cyl 100k miles using oil

Post by prbent »

briefly looked through the posts and did not see anything relating to this issue although there seems to be a fair amount of comments on line in general. I noticed that my 08 started to use oil around 90k miles. consumption currently seems to be close to a quart per 1000 k miles. Will occasionally smell burnt oil although am not blowing smoke from the exhaust. No oil leaks, engine is tight and nothing on the driveway.

Posts on line suggests that cause could be the PCV valve, oil trap and related hoses, although I find nothing specifically related to the 08. The maintenance schedule in the manual does not require service for this and am not throwing codes. Never had a car start burning oil without cause, especially this early in age and at this pace.

Where is the PCV valve located on this engine, is this worth checking / replacing considering no codes - should a failed or clogged pcv system code? Any ideas, suggestions etc would be appreciated.
