1990 740GL speakers

Mine only has door speakers. No spots for them in the dash or rear package shelf. Door speaker grilles slide off without removing the door panel and speakers are screwed on to the panel. I checked Crutchfield and carsound, and both listed 5 1/2" speakers. Ordered a set of Pyle 5 1/2" 3 ways. Popped the first grille of and the factory speakers are bigger, like 5 3/4" or maybe 6".
Has anyone replaced the door speakers in a 90, and if so, what did you use?
