2000-2014 AW55-50SN AW55-51SN TF-80SC Fluid

Post by precopster »

Ran across this Chief/Mohican fluid today at a great price (for Australia anyway)

Normally selling for $45 for 5 litres however with the Easter 20% discount comes in at $36 or $7.20/litre so of course I'm tempted as I usually pay $65 for 4 litres or $16.25/litre of Nulon synthetic JWS-3309 fluid.

I can't source Mobil 3309 here without placing a special order and paying through the nose.

Chief oils are Made in The Netherlands and seems to have a website that stands by the product.

Any peoples out there ever tried this or any of their products? :D

i enquired in the forum several months back about Chief oils and products but got no responses from any members.
Was surprising as it comes from the USA I believe.
Supercheap Auto here in NZ stock some of their products. I presume thats your source also in Aus'.

Hey Precopster- are you buying from supercheap? They are the only place I haven't been to look for transmission oil yet. Saw the Nulon at I think it was Autobahn.

Yeah it's at Supercheap. The Nulon sells pretty much everywhere (Repco, Supercheap, Autobarn) and it has worked fine in my 2000 V70 for almost 50,000kms.

I bit the bullet and bought 2 of the Mohicans for only $76. I'll keep this post live with how it went.

Hey Miker any feedback on the chief transmission fluid?

I actually bought a bottle while I was looking at air compressors, so I will be putting a bottle through once I have sorted out my "subframe issue".

It will be used in my 2001 XC70 project car which will require a full fill because the 'box and torque converter have been fully drained.

Also I'm up to the 3rd drain & fill on the other XC (a 2002) so I may use 3.5 litres in this one mixed with the Nulon synthetic.

It may be a couple of months until the 2001 is on the road.

I used the Chief Mohican Multi ATF on a 'drain and fill' on my 2002 V40 just last month.
Absolutely fine and no transmission issues at all.
The old stuff was near filthy black although shifting was ok. Reckon it was the original fluid. (105,000km's)
Their engine oils are good too.

I've used the Chief multi STF on our 2001, and I think it was pretty good considering the transmission already had suspected Valve body issues. We ran it for around 11 months and did around 20,000 Km's up and done the coast.
I'll buy it again as it's readily available.

I'm not against using it. It seems just a bit darker out of the container than other fluids I've used. My wife's 2002 XC70 is running fine on it.

On my 2001 I'm going to use Nulon synthetic instead as that particular fluid has done over 65,000kms in my 2000 V70 with 322K on the clock (time for a drain and fill) without a leak or a fluid check.

The 2002 with Chief fluid leaking fluid so this COULD be just an old tranny doing it's thing or perhaps the Chief doesn't have good seal conditoners. Without more people using it and reporting I guess it's all guesswork.
