At 61,700 miles the A/C compressor in my 2010 V70 died.
Anyone else experiencing same issues?

If you get that repair done promptly it will save having to replace other components in the AC system
Not exactly optional down in FL!!

Parts manager told me that in the 2011 model there is a replaceable control valve for the AC compressor and when it fails, this part costs around $200 for the control valve to be replaced.
However the 2010 model (which is what I have) does not have said control valve, and the entire compressor must be replaced which the compressor itself is $970.

That is a variable displacement compressor. It has a valve that is electrically operated to control the VD function. If the compressor has any metal filings that get loose it can stick the VD valve.
Did it fail all at once or did it start by not cooling for 10 minutes or so and then all of sudden it is working fine?
I assume you are out of the 4yr/50K warranty.

It failed all at once with no prior symptoms.
My car had warranty to 60K, the last service was performed mid March. AC failure occurred 11 days ago at 61,700 miles.

Your dealer didn't offer to contact Volvo for assistance on your behalf?
It sounds like you bought that car while Safe and Secure coverage for 5/60 was in effect and you are a little out by mileage but likely still in by the 5 year part.

No, I had to contact Customer Care myself and bring this to their attention.jimmy57 wrote:Your dealer didn't offer to contact Volvo for assistance on your behalf?

This afternoon I was informed that they will offer me $400 toward the repair estimate of $1281. (not including tax). I am very disappointed.
