2011 XC90 Wiring compatibility with 2004 upper liftgate

Post by frankfilipanits »

I am trying to replace my damaged 2011 XC90 upper liftgate with one from a 2004 XC90, but was surprised to find that the 14-pin wiring connector on the 2004 liftgate wiring bundle doesn't seem to exist on the 2011. Instead of a connector roughly 18 inches on the body side of the wiring from the liftgate, the 2011 wiring bundle runs without interruption across the ceiling, all the way down the rear driver's side pillar, and down past the fuse panel.

I can splice the wiring in, if I can identify the correct pairs to match up. I have found wiring diagrams for the 2004 and 2011 XC90 - anyone know the part # and availability for the male 14-pin connector that pairs with the 2004 harness (connector 54/78)? Also, is there a way to identify the corresponding 2011 wires without physically tracing each one to its final connector? They don't seem to be marked in any way.

Or would I be better off transferring all of the wiring and guts of the 2011 liftgate to the 2004 shell?

Thank you,
-Frank
