95 Volvo 960 only starts after adding fuel to the gas tank?

Post by KCB1988 »

The other night I ran to Walgreen's real quick. I shut off the car and ran inside. I came back out and went to start the car again and it started then died in 5 seconds. I went to start it again and it would crank but it would not start the car. (not sure if I worded that right) I kept trying over and over again and the same thing happened. Waited a day went back to start it and the same thing. The car showed it had a half a tank of gas. I went ahead and added fuel just to be sure. About a gallon I added. It started right up. I went ahead and added 10 dollars worth of gas and drove it home. That night I went to start it and it would crank but it would not start the car. Kept doing it even though I tried multiple times. So I once again added about a gallon and it started right up but died about 10 seconds later. Any idea on what is going on?

Such as a non-working evap system. Try it with the gas cap temporarily removed.
