1994 850 Sedan, Rear knocking over bumps

Post by Fish stick88 »

Hello all.

Having a really rough time with my car lately, but I will address the issues separately.

It had been becoming more prominent over the past few months and finally to the point where its a big attention-getter. There is a loud THUD sound coming from the rear of my car, seems to me kinda near the rear shock tower. It seems like everytime I switch direction (Forward to backwards) my car makes the sound. (example: when I back in at night, as soon as I put it into reverse and begin moving, it knocks ((kinda seems like my strut tower is pivoting)) and also when I pull out in the morning, it knocks again)
This knock is to the point where it literally sounds like I'm crashing into someone else's car. (Kinda awkward when I'm backing into a parking spot in public)

I will try to take a video next time I leave but it is somewhat hard to tell from the cabin.

Thanks!
AJ
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... That's what gets you.

I would do an inspection of the trailing arm links. There is a cover plate held on by 3 bolts. Remove plate and with a pry bar see if the bushings are worn. Worn bushings in the link would produce a bang sound as it wobbles or impacts the retaining bolt.
