2004 XC90 Replacement keys

Post by MRJEL »

I fear the answer but I have to ask anyway.

My used XC90 only had the valet key with it when I purchased it. Are there ANY alternatives to a replacement key/remote unit that will not require a second mortgage on my house?

Yes.. and no.

When I got my XC90 it only had a flip remote, with a broken flip. I contacted my local locksmith and asked for options. They informed me that they would NOT cut ebay keys. But you can get a non-remote key for about $60.00 - but there is still a "programming charge" which is required; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. That "fee" varies, in my case it was $75.00 If I recall correctly. So I asked the next question what would the fee be if I wanted four keys? - Answer If you do them all at once, $75.00.

My V50 needed a key when I bought it. Myswedishparts.com sold an OEMpack key for $80 that my MD dealer programmed for $180 ($120 shop time + $60 software).

Yeah, $260 is about what the dealer quoted me for a chipped key. Around $350 for the fancy remote gizmo thingy.

Find another dealer, the full key w/o remote is about $150.
$75 for the blank key cut and $75 for programming.
Basically a whole bunch of Volvo rooks.

BMW is better, give them the VIN, registration, they will have the key w/o remote for $45 in 2 days!
No programming BS whatsoever.
