2000 volvo s80 rpm drop while driving

have a 2000 s80 and you can be driving along and the rpm's drop to 1000. warning says pull over shut off engine and re start.. do that and in park cannot go over 1200 rpm. need to shut off for 10 min and then re starts and is normal

anyone have a clue

Unfortunately many things could be causing this. In fact it happened to my car as well, turned out to be coil pack failure, but could be something as simple as a fuel filter.

mine turned out to be a shot throttle body

check for any codes
