2004 2.5T AWD XC90 Muffler Replacement

Post by netasp »

hi guys,
Does know one know if there are any after market mufflers for XC90s? My muffler needs replacement and the new ones are very expensive. I was just wondering if anyone has found a cheaper muffler alternatives?
some are on eBay but not sure if they would be a good option:

I'd go with this one; http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carco ... ttype,5872

Rockauto is a decent place to look first! $150 for a NEW 160 amp alternator convinced me!

Thanks guys for the info.

MRJEL:
I was looking at it earlier but it says only for FWD. Someone else had mentioned it would be different for the AWD, it won't fit because of the AWD system. can someone confirm this?

Thanks

I would ask Rockauto for item's fitment.
Give the OE part number.

Muffler is tricky business.

Although Walker, Starla are good names, nothing matches the Volvo OEM muffler.

It all depends how long you want to keep the car.

The link xHeart provided above showed Volvo muffler at $335. which is not a bad price, considering that it lasts 10 years+.

Volvo of Lisle is a decent source that I often use.
The $335 part pos. 3 on the diag. however, looks more like the resonator. The final stage (muffler) is actually pos. 13 and appears to be twice the price, no?
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

it's between part # 13 or part # 21, which is about $608. This Volvo dealer sells it for $623 which is showing as part # 10 (it's the rear muffler)

I would love to keep my car for the next 10 years but, it is already at 186,000 KM and I am hoping to keep it for the next 2-3 years at least

Your odo of 186,000km (116K miles) is nothing. I have a 1998 S70 GLT with 165K miles, running strong.
Your XC90 will easily last another 10 years, the only question is do you want to keep it that long.

oh for sure I do, other than some people tell me I would at some point have to replace the transmission, I have no concerns, apparently those models have weaker transmission, but I figured I can get a used one if it goes out on me...
