2004 XC90 removing camshaft pulley

2004 XC90 removing camshaft pulley

The XC90 has 185,000 and a notable oil leak in the timing belt area. I am in the process of changing the timing belt, water pump and seals (front and rear cams and crank) and am concerned with the "feel" of removing the camshaft pulley plug. I have made a camshaft locking tool that seems to be holding very steady, however, when I try to loosen the camshaft pulley plug the camshaft does not seem to hit a dead stop (rest position) as I thought it would. It seems to give some, almost like bending. As long as the tools is holding the cams, is there anything internal that could be damaged if the pulley rotates a few cogs past rest?

You should have removed the cam sprocket bolts with the TB still on.

I wrote the seal replacement procedure for my 1998 S70, the EXHAUST cam seal is very difficult, all detail below.
