I am about to come into a little bit of money and I would like to upgrade my current 1998 V70 GLT to a newer/better cared for example. My budget will be about $5000 (or possibly more for the right car - but I am cheap when it comes to car purchases). I have always wanted an R Wagon, but I am not sure it would really suit me as I do most of my driving in town. I do want to have stop light to stop light performance, however. I would love to buy one that has been well taken care of, performance enhancements welcomed, dark exterior and light interior would be top of the list.
I am also a bit stuck on the shape/design of the 1998 - 2000 V70's.
Anybody seen anything around that they could point me towards?

I should have included 850's in that shape/design category anyway...

Oh wow. That does look like a nice car. How much different is the handling of the XC than the regular V70's? Is it much taller? I am not so scared of the AWD as I am of the ride height. I am leaning towards trying to find something that is a bit more obvious in it's ability to go fast. I have been searching out and looking at the V70R and also trying to figure out the overall cost to find a nice GLT and upgrade the turbo to a larger one and maybe give it a light tune, tint and maybe upgrade the wheels. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to get out of my Mercedes phase and into these wagons...Matty Moo wrote:A bit far from you but pretty close to perfect.

These early XC's are only about 1/2" taller and the handling really does not suffer
Install a pair of ipd sway bars and it will be just fine.
I forgot about this one, possibly one of the best in the country right now with GREAT miles
Also knowing the seller, he probably will fix anything that's needed before delivery.
I would contact him and try to make a deal, If I were not a dealer (and buy wholesale) I would!

So it sounds like I can broaden my search. I didn't realize the XC was that similar to the regular V70JRL wrote:These early XC's are only about 1/2" taller and the handling really does not suffer

Same as a V70AWD just with body cladding and a teenie bit taller
You don't want the hassle of the early AWD? Just remove the propshaft and you will be running in FWD with no aggravation

Sounds good. There seem to be plenty of them in my area including one with just a bit over 100k on the clock for about $4000.JRL wrote:Same as a V70AWD just with body cladding and a teenie bit taller

You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a P80 XC70, here in Denver.
