Post by div4scpro » Wed Aug 20, 2014 7:30 pm

for those who have utilized a NA intake on their turbo, have you tapped the NA intake for the additional vacuum fittings that are located ajacadent to the throttle body?

I only had to tap one new hole for the TCV tube fitting. You want to do it before you install the manifold so you can blow out any aluminum shavings.

I just brought the brass fitting to NAPA and bought a tap with the matching thread.

I think the fitting was actually for the TCV. The other was EVAP.

I picked up an n/a manifold set up from someone who had a 1994 turbo. I have a 1998 S70 T5 M so I had to make a few changes to it:

1. Block the EGR port at the bottom of the manifold. Volvo dealer sells a kit for $16, well worth it.
2. I had to tap a port on the left side of the manifold for the PVC system. Looks like Volvo didn't have that in 1994.
3. I had to tap an additional port in the front for the fuel line. The 98 S70 has 3 ports where the earlier versions have 2.

Once that was all done, the car ran like a charm. I was most impressed with the improved highway gas mileage. With the cruise set at 65 I get 34 MPG and the cruise set at 75 I get 30. The power was noticeable the first couple days. Not sure if I just got used to it, but it seems to have reverted back. Is this an ECU issue?

I'm reviving this dead thread... Everyone says you have to drill and tap for the addition barb(s) but no one list the size needed. I've read numerous threads on different forums and this info is never posted. That would be extremely helpful for the DIY people out there in the world if you post the correct tap needed.

I have to be honest with you, I couldn't tell you the exact size tap I used. I reused a fitting from another intake manifold and then just compared the size of the fitting to the taps in my kit. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

Quick update. Since I am doing this mod and realized as I was going to swap everything that I didn't have the additional barbs that are found on the turbo manifold. The tap needed is M10x1.0, it has a very fine thread. The drill bit needed is metric 9.1 mm. I found the tap and drill bit on eBay. Tap was $7 and the drill bit was $13. So $20 altogether. Will update again with pictures once I receive parts from eBay to complete this task.
