1996 440 cd Immobiliser works too well

Hi,
After a bit of key fob trouble car stopped. no dash lights but starter operated. wait a minute and it starts. few miles1-2 car stops. Same process.
can I get at the Immobiliser and disconnect it. Car 80k miles and drives superbly- unless it stops.
My wife has taken my 120 estate to work in the rain and the 440 will not play ball!

Now things are worse: I changed the keyfob batteries and it won't lock or unlock or start or anything!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAgh!
