Hello,
I have a 2002 Volvo V70 XC. It has about 74000 miles and has been running great until we moved to Colorado. I commute back and forth over Hoosier Pass to Silverthorne, CO. The car'c tach/engine goes up and down and up and down pretty consistantly. It has power to pass going up the mountain, but it is annoying having the car pulsate like this.
Not sure if this is related, but the car will alsogo back and forth between gears at all speeds (except in a good acceleration). To over come this I put the car in the manual auto transmission (Geartronic). This works but the car still pulsates.
Can you help or heard of this?
Thank you,
Carl

Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.
Also -> Amazon link. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

Well..., That seems similar. But under strong acceleration, it still pulsates. It seemed to pulsate on the second and every second. I will check out the Turbo Boost Solonoid Valve. I hope that is it.
Thank you,

If I may take a couple of guesses - have you ever done a tranny flush? definately worth doing. It almost sounds like you've got a couple of problems....one where the torque converter seems to be locking & unlocking & perhaps the car is confused with the altitude change. Have you had the transmission software updated? Also sounds like early stages of ETM failure, but maybe cleaning it might help. Most of this will unfortunately require a visit to the dealer (factory downloads), but I would thing that by not doing it you're going to eventually end up replacing that box, as they don't take too kindly to that kind of operation (constant gear hunting). Good luck.

I had a Transmission Flush and it helped. Volvo said everything is fine (but they only read the test indicators). Volvo said there are no downloads and the ETM is not on my Volvo.
I replaces the Turbo Boost soleinod. That was the problem w/ the fluctuation in the tach and it was SOOO Easy to replace (Thanks).
