1998 V70XC back seat screen cover broken

Post by 850 LPT »

I wonder if this has happened to someone before. The plastic bits just fell apart one day and now the cover doesn't close anymore:

I tried taking the cover off but the hinge part would not budge. What's the best way to fix this?

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks, Dirk

It pretty much happens to all of them. It isn't terribly intuitive to remove it but you need to remove the inner end cap on the seat and then the assembly slides toward the center of the car to get past its tabs for removal. You can't replace just the cover.

Thanks Lee,

I guess it is of no use trying to find a good used one. It will most likely be just as brittle as the one I have. Maybe the dealer still sells this, I'll check on that. At least I know now how to get it out :)

I doubt it Dirk
I don't know anyone who uses those nets, at least not much.
If you need a cargo or dog net find a heavier one that Volvo used to sell. It;'s easier to attach rather than fiddle with that nightmare!

Thanks Jim,

That sounds like a good idea. Would you happen to know if that's still available at the dealer?

I'm still going to see if I can fix that cover, even if I don't use that screen anymore. The thing just hanging half way open just bugs me.

I was thinking of the (much cheaper) and much THICKER nylon nets that fold.
They attach to the roof slots and tie down on the floor hooks.

Thanks guys,

I will explore both options. The cargo gate appears to be OEM but it is expensive. I have never even heard of that nylon net before. I would imagine that's hard to find?
