My 2000 s80t6 was shutting off and the RPMs were unstable at low RPM. I did the following to fix the problem: breather replacement kit (not sure if that's the right name for it), new mass air filter (maf), new cvvt solenoid (rewired as suggested on this site), and replaced the two larges plastic pipes on the top of the engine (as they were broken on the ends and not making a good seal on the metal pipes).
The problem was solved, and the back pressure observed when removing the dipstick went away.
But, now, the RPMs have started jumping a bit around 2,000 and 2,500 RPMs intermittently. The needle drops down 200 to 300 RPMs and back up, but the original problem of stalling and instability at idle is not occurring.
Any advice?
thanks

Do you still have the old MAF? if so try putting it back in, unless you put the best MAF available or original Volvo part it may not be quality enough. I found this out the hard way and wasted money on a cheaper MAF only to throw it away and put the original back in. Cleaned it good with MAF cleaner first.

thanks - i bought all oem parts from volvo, so i don't think it's because of a cheap part (i guess a defect is possible). the jump and drop in rpms occurs at cruising speed, not when accelerating.

just an update - the xemodex throttle body / etm plus new solenoid did the trick and cured the surging rpm problem - but, then the car was wrecked - ouch - so, i'm trying to figure out whether to part out the car (including the throttle body) or fix it
