1994 850 Interior Lights

I recently overhauled my 850 with 250K miles, and am trying to finish a basic restoration.

I'm finally taking the time to redo the entire interior, like the headliner and carpet, along with replacing all the crack plastics, and worn switches with good ones from various scrap yards. However, I'm to the point of replacing all of the bulbs throughout the car, with newer ones or the same tempature LEDs. I've looked around iPd and FCP, but I cannot figure out exactly how many bulbs there are, or there locations in the car. i.e. Center console, glove box, etc.. Does the 94 have a light in the Headlight switch? If so, mines not working. If anyone has a list of all of the bulb locations, I can figure the rest out, just want to make sure I get all of them.

All of the switches have illumination but, on the '93 and '94 models, the lamps are not socketed and you need to disassemble the switch to get to the lamps. I see the later model switches in sets and individually on ebay all the time and they are much easier to deal with.

VADIS and VIDA don't call out replacement lamps for the earlier models since they were not considered to be serviceable.

There is a way to replace the bulbs in the 93 and 94 panel switches. Like Lee mentioned the 93 and 94 switch(es) would need to be disassembled to get to the bulbs. If you're looking at replacing the bulbs I had very good luck picking up a couple of packs of 12v miniature bulbs from Radio Shack. With the switch disassembled some soldering would be required to remove the old bulb and connect the new one.

If soldering isn't your thing you can buy 1995 and later switches. The bulbs are easier to replace (as Lee mentioned). Plus the same 12v bulbs mentioned above work in these switches too!

Awesome, thank you so much! I will most likely go the route of re-soldering new bulbs into the switches. I was recently at a few local U Pull Its and they only had newer model 850's. I'm looking for original parts.

As far as the bulbs for things like the Ash Tray and Center Console. All of them were blown at the junk yards. I don't see any on iPd or FCP, or even sites like rock auto. Any ideas where I might find them?

Those sockets are fairly unique. You can get the lamps through the dealership at about $10.00 a copy or, since it sounds like you are comfortable soldering, you can relamp the sockets with the Radio Shack 272-1092 lamps. I use a Dremel to just nip the leads on the old lamps and then thread the replacement lamp leads through the holes and solder them back onto the old lamp socket.

I think IPD actually does have the lamps but you may need to call them since I'm not sure where they are buried on the website.

Robert (RSPI) who is a member here also has a line on some of the unique Volvo bulbs and he might have them. You can PM him and ask anyway.

precisionled.com has the full interior/exterior LED set for 850. Order the 6000k bright set for all bulbs, anything past this is considered blue
