Any Volvo with a AW55-50SN transmision built between 2000 and 2002 was most likely affected with valve body issues. The S60 and V70 P2 series was the most affected as they carried more weight and had a new control software which didn't cope well with sluggish solenoids which were the root of the problem.
The control software had no way to determine shift timing when solenoids were sticking so tthey slammed gears in harshly and this transmitted a lot of shock through the internals. Lighter P80 FWD cars with less torque fared better as they could transfer this shock into wheel spin. The heavy P2 AWDs were most affected because of prodigious grip, causing shock to be contained within the transmission.
