If my sensor is telling me to replace my key FOB battery, and if it goes dead, will the car still start if I put the key FOB in the "inserted slot" on the dashboard?
Someone also mentioned to wrap my key FOB battery in aluminum foil, what does that do?

yes.
I have no idea what the aluminum foil would do. That is a weird one. The security ID chip in key is not powered by the battery, only the remote radio that is active when the buttons are depressed. Even the keyless entry system (if the car has that feature) requires no fob battery as it is another security chip that is read when you grab door handle or trunk handle.
The lock and alarm status indicator LEDs on the keyless system remote also need battery to operate.
