If my S70 is on a level surface and I drain the transmission fluid, how much is going to come out (generally)? Seems to me last time I did it it was 4 or 5 quarts or so but I may be wrong. You have to flush to get it all out right? And something I understand you don't want to do on a car with high mileage.
Just want to know so I know how much fluid to buy -- thanks very much.

Hi when I drain and fill my 1998 S70 it usually takes about 3.75 quarts. Regards, SpeedyPete

I do this in my garage a lot: almost exactly 3.5 quarts. But I still measure it every time ...
That's on jack stands, so not actually level.

Yeah OK, thanks much -- I remember you drain it and then it gets to the point where it just drizzles forever. Think I'll just make a container and mark a line for 3.75 quarts and just do a drain and fill every oil change till it's replenished. It needs it.
And I'm reading Mobil1 Synthetic, right?

I also use the cheap stuff. SuperTech Dex III. If you have a turbo and drive it hard, then it will perhaps thank you for Mobil1, otherwise I really don't think it matters with these transmissions.

I got 4.5 quarts when I recently did this and it was soot black. That was two surprises: one b/c the standard amount is about 3.5, which is what I've gotten out previously; and also that it was so dirty after 3 drain and fills last summer. But that car hasn't been driven much in the interim and it was sitting on a slight downward facing slope. It's clean now.
