1993 850 Vacuum line from airbox

Post by fiore67 »

Somewhere in the course of removing the airbox i can't find where one of the vacuum lines goes to. There are two hard line with rubber elbows on the left side of the the airbox when looking from the front of the car. The black plastic line is the one i can't figure out. It connects on the bottom side of the the airbox and is zip tied together with other lines and ends with a rubber elbow in the area of the the IAC valve. The idle is rough but running and i'm all out of ideas. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'll start with the disclaimer that I have never worked on a 93. But I'll give it a shot ...

You are correct, it is neither #2 not #6 as named up above, but something unique to the 93/94 vehicles. And I suspect the unit mounted on the airbox in your picture there is the solenoid for the VVIS intake system. If so, then it connects to a check valve and to the VVIS servo. Here is a generic diagram for '93's that you can find online in various places but I found it well annotated over in another Volvo forum, have a look:

from http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-850-16/engine-pic-1996-850-non-turb0-50958/
This classic MVS post has several good pictures of VVIS components and associated vac lines, although some of the parts are custom not stock: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =5&t=30281

And here is indeed the VVIS solenoid:
