1999 S70 "New" car in the garage

Post by kallekula »

Just wanted to share some pics of my new junk car I bought the other day :)
Got it cheap because it was not running. It's a T5 network car which is rare I guess??
Replaced some cracked vacuum hoses, battery and two ignition coils. Runs really good now but there are a lot of interesting dash lights on still.

Just came back from watching the Ducks beat Sabres woho! Since my gf was asleep getting home I snuck out to the garage and had another look at the red one.
Tried the classic "squeeze-the-abs-module" trick and voila! No more tracs, abs, brake, ets lights on! Gonna buy myself a lottery ticket tomorrow I think.
Just have to wait for the readiness state and then off to smog :)

A buddy of mine hooked his '98 up to a battery and took the car to smog. Of course it failed almost every level. So he and the guy was shooting the breeze while the guy tested and fixed the gas cap. About 10 minutes had gone by with the car still hooked up to the machine via the OBD2 PORT. They went back and checked the machine and ALL reports were READY and passed (the car was running the entire time).

So, if the car fails, have them let it sit idle on the machine a few minutes and see if that causes things to post ready and pass.

I recently purchased a '98 GLT that had not been run for about 3 years. Replaced the head, tossed a battery in it, drove it for about 100 miles, sold it, and the guy took it to smog the next day and it passed. I don't think they ever cut the car off to smog it.

Squeeze the ABS module? Really it works? I guess a bad solder joint. I have my ABS and Tracs light on, I will be checking the sensor resistance when I change to my winter tires soon as the previous owner said he changed the ABS computer, but maybe his mechanic put another faulty computer.

Nice looking car!

I was hard-pressed to decide between a red S70 GLT and a blue S70 T5.

The beautiful charcoal interior and T5 engine made the decision for me.

Did some service on the red one.
New oil+filter
Tranny flush
Coolant flush
new brake fluid

Damn this car runs good! My initial thought was to flip it but I'm considering keeping it now. Car has around 180K on it but the engine only 100K.
