So I own a 2002 Volvo S60 with about 155,000 miles. I've had it about a year now. But now the car is doing this weird shifting like it feels like a standard. It happens in first and second I think. I hope this makes sense. Like it doesn't feel smooth like an automatic any more I feel the gear changes.. One of my guy friends who is really into volvo's did my transmission fluid about 3 months back. Just wondering before I take it to a shop and they charge me 300 to look at it because it isn't a gm or ford

Did the shifting issue happen after the fluid change? Did your friend also do a transmission software reset? That can be important if new fluid is put into the transmission, which needs to know it in order to adjust the shifting parameters.

Yes it did, and no he didn't. I texted him and he said he isn't sure how to do that. Do I take it to the dealer for that?

Just be certain he used the correct fluid Mobil 3309, Volvo dealer fluid or any fluid with the JWS 3309 specification and NOT Dex III. How many quarts of fluid were used?
The fluid counter reset may help however, when air is introduced into a transmission it can take some time to work its way out.
