2001 V70 T5 Tire size/traction sensor

Post by dapaman »

I got a pair of 225/55-17 snow tires off another car, so I had them installed on the front. Turns out theyre too big and they rubbed when wheel was turned. So i had those put on back, and got a new pair of 225/45-17 snow tires put on front. Now the traction sensor comes on like the wheels are slipping on ice. Of course this makes it nearly impossible to drive. The websites ive checked all say tire size for this vehicle is 235/45-17. Would having slightly bigger tires on the back cause this problem? im wondering if changing the back tires to same size as front will fix this, or will i need bigger ones on front.

I turned the STC off and that took care of the problem for now. Have to turn it off every time u start the car bc it comes on automatically

Yes tire size differential from front to rear will make STC think the smaller set are spinning since they will turn faster. heck the tire circumference from mfg specs, I don't know how close the tolerances are for the wheel speed sensors?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )

1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
