1996 850 Interior cabin blower motor runs after car shut off

I have a 96 Volvo 850 Turbo with approximately 170,000 miles on it. Sometimes when I turn off the car the interior cabin blower motor continues to run. My guess is it is a bad blower motor relay - part number 9494787. Any constructive input would be appreciated.

My guess would be a bad ECC.

Seems coincidental that I removed the radio recently and now the ECC may be bad? Is it possible that I just bumped a connection and caused a problem that way?

It's not likely the ECC, as the ECC does not get power when the key is off. That doesn't make the problem any easier to find but is something to consider ...

Check for a short in the wiring behind the radio, good call.

If it shuts down after a few minutes it is due to a modification that Volvo came up with to keep the evaporator core from rotting out as quickly. They put a time delay on the blower to try to get rid of the condensation after the car is shut off.

If it keeps running and won't turn off at all then chances are you have a shorted out power stage (blower resistor).

The blower motor does not stop after a few minutes. If I pull fuse number 5 it stops - even when I reinstall this fuse right away. Does that sound like a bad blower resistor? If so, I will replace it as soon as I can get one.

The "Afterblow" function as Volvo call ot is factory fitted on the P2 series only. It can be removed by the dealer with a software upgrade.

I don't think this is an "afterblow" software related issue. The car did not do this when I first purchased it. Now it does so I am thinking it must be a resistor, relay or something else.

The ECC unit comes with temperature sensor.
Is that a suspect, pn 6849017?
