97 850 How do I remove the exterior door handle from lock

Post by a50sGreaser »

I have a 1997 Volvo 850 Sportwagon and the handle is missing from the door. only the key portion is on the door. I bought a used lock and handle from the local wrecking yard (don't have a key for it) but cant seem to get the new handle off of the key lock part. I removed the gaskets and the spring but it wont come past the plastic around the lock. I want to replace the lock with the one I have a key for. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

inside the door remove a black triangular piece to reveal two screws that secures the door handle.

Thanks for the reply! I have the assembly out of the door. I just need to take the handle that you pull on to open the door off of the part that has the lock that bolts to the door. The handle wont come past the lock portion of the assembly after I remove the little spring. It hits on the plastic that is around the lock cylinder and I cant get it past it.

I tried for a while and gave up. I'm sure there is some special tool that the dealer has to do that.

man, there has to be some way to get it off...Is there a way to remove the lock cylinder without the key so I can put my original lock cylinder that I have the key for in the handle assembly that I bought?
