As part of the on-going saga of the corrosion of the rear sub-frame, and now having to remove it, is there any advice on how to remove the rear axle retaining nut at the wheel hub? I was hoping not to have to do this by dropping the inner end of the lower control arm and hopefully having enough room to get the sub-frame out. But the more I ponder the issue, the more I think it would be easier to have the rear axles out of the way. The cruncher was when I saw one of the diff seals is leaking so I'll get that while in there.
I know Volvo has a special tool that mounts to the hub and looks like it locks against the brake caliper to prevent rotation, but I don't want to buy another tool I'll use once (well twice!). Tool part # 9995540.
Thanks,
Neil.
