Wife used the wagon with 177k miles on it for the last few days, Mornings in the teens and she drove 15 miles to work and 12 hours later drove 15 miles back, All was well,
One morning she starts it up, Gets a full tank of gas and goes about 10 miles and the car starts running like crap, Check engine light flashing and its missing pretty bad.
I am thinking that its time for plugs, Wires, Cap and rotor as I had them in stock for the car so I toss them in and the issue does NOT go away,
Tosses codes at me,
Misfire CYL 1 and CYL 2, Cleared code and Misfire CYL 2 comes back instantly,
I havent gotten to do a compression test yet,
Any chance an injector went belly up?
Ill check fuel pressure later this week as I am out of town and she's driving my car for the time being.
Any thoughts on this matter?
Peter B

Turbo volvos don't like the cold. The intercoolers can freeze. In extreme cases I've had the car would start but not actually go anywhere. Also remove the distributor cap and check the rotor cap, the cap contacts and for cracks and damp. Check all the cables are good. They can break down on their ends and go brittle.
Has the car been ok since if the temperature has risen?

It would not be impossible for you to have a burned exhaust valve in cylinder 2. A compression test should tell you.
Other possible causes -- a rear cam seal leak behind the distributor causing oil contamination of the cap.
Was the front O2 sensor changed at 100K miles?
Have you been using cheap gas?

Will do compression check in next day or two,
WIfe puts gas in car,
Cheap, Beaver piss if she can find it,
She ran it a couple days when it was in the teens in the morning and no issues,
Next morning she started it, Ran a couple errands and started up highway hill and it started acting up,
She called me and I told her to go back home and take my car,
I put new cap, Rotor, Wires and plugs and no difference,
Ill do a compression test as soon as I can,
177k miles on car,
Keeping fingers crossed,
~ ~ ~
Will a code reading "Missfire cylinder #2" Does code know weather there is no spark? Or no power from power stroke?

What brand of plugs did you use? Turbo Volvos are very particular to the brands they like. I only use OE, but some of the guys here have used other brands. If you search the forum on plugs you will find lots of info on this,
If your wife uses cheap gas, treat the car to some quality Premium, a can of Seafoam, and a good run.
Still could be the intercooler freezing up. Drive the car yourself (after removing the cover from the accelerator/gas pedal cable near the throttle body). When the engine starts to chug, stop, open the hood and rev the engine. Look at the turbo pipes and see if they are collapsing. If they are then the intercooler is freezing. If your pcv is blocked, or ptc nipple, this will cause a build up of oil in the intercooler, which holds more moisture and cause the intercooler to freeze. Take the intercooler out, have it hot cleaned and try again. You could also try blocking the airflow to the intercooler/radiator with cardboard when it gets cold to see if that helps.
The other guys have also raised several good points. Check the compressions, check for moisture/oil in the distributor. What brand of plug wires did you use? Only like OE/Bougicord. Also only use Bosch cap and rotor.
Check for any codes. Not all codes show up as issues on the dash.
Good luck,
Neil.

Well,
The car officially is looking for a new home, All 4 cylinders of it,
No compression in cylinder #2, All others ran to 90 psi on my compression tester, I can't tell you if my compression tester is accurate, But something tells me that when #2 reads 0 and the others read about 90, Something is wrong,
~ ~ ~ ~
My sister bought this car when it had 16K on it and drove it for about 10-12 years, She always dealer maintained it, Timing belt, PCV system, Ect, We got it a little over a year ago with I think 158k miles, I even put a new PCV system about 6 months ago, New "A" arms, Tires and alignment.
Car now has 177k miles, AWD system works fantastic, Car has newer suspension on it as well as new motor mounts and now she dead,
Runs and drives and starts easy, BUT its time for it to go, I am just too busy to toss a new or rebuilt head onto it,
Oh well,
One dead hole out of five is no good,
Peter

Nuts, not sure why #2 is most common. Did you guys drive it hard at all? I am developing a theory that these cars burn valves when not driven hard.
Wish I was closer.
