Volvo Repair Database 98 Volvo C70 How-to Replace Rocker Switch Bulb

Post by phils94850 »

This should work for 850 models as well..

I had a couple bulbs out on my sunroof and tracs switch so I decided to replace the bulbs. Here is a write up on how to do it if anyone needs it..

Here is the replacement bulb youll need. I had to order from Radio Shack. ( part # 272-1092 ) It was like 5 bucks for 4 bulbs..Image

First off.. remove the switch, simply pry it out of the dash and it just pops out. Then unplug. Once you get it out flip it over and youll see the bulb..

Use a small screwdriver and turn the bulb counterclockwise and remove the bulb

Image
Once you remove the bulb take a small tip screwdriver and stick in the slot and youll see the end of the bulb wire. Peel the wire back and unwrap it from the bottom of the bulb ( both sides ) then pull the bulb out
Image
Image
Once the bulb is out you'll see the two holes in the bulb holder, insert the two wires in the holes of the bulb holder and then wrap it back around as the old wires came out. Trim the extra wire off.

Insert the bulb back into the switch, give it a partial turn clockwise, and re-insert the switch and there you go :)

Nice write-up.

Another source for bulbs, they are $0.39 each at Mouser, plus shipping. I also got radio bulbs there.

Part number there for the dash switch bulbs is 560-7219

Radio bulbs they use part number 560-CNW123, $0.65 each

The original bulbs in the radio can NOT be rebuilt like the switch bulbs. So you need to purchase bulbs like Erik linked or get small stem switch bulb holders from a head light switch or something and replace the bulbs in them. Honda also sells those short stem bulbs for about $5 each.

I just used this guide to replace some bulbs in my 850. It was so cheap, and so easy! Thanks for the writeup.

Out of curiosity, is the procedure and parts for switches for the heated seats and transmission, and the dimmer slider for the instrument cluster all the same? How do you get the dimmer slider out?

Thanks!

Kim

Heated seats and dimmer: yes, the same. Light around the shifter is different, but you can use these same 7219 bulbs in there.

Dimmer is a little bulky but it just pulls out, basically the same. You have to pull the switch underneath it, too.

It is great having the alternate part numbers for the lamps since Radio Shack went Tango Uniform. Radio Shack lamps were a bit expensive but it sure was convenient and there wasn't any freight.

I managed to find 10 bulbs for $5.62
on Amazon at
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L8BR76A/
You can redo the ones for the radio but you need a drill press to get out whatever that crap is they sealed the end of the contacts into the bases with.
