2001 XC70 Question about a part name

Post by hadleyet »

When driving my 2001 XC70 if I have my foot on the brake pedal while I turn the steering wheel there is a part of the steering column/assembly that turns against the front of my shoe. I presume there's supposed to be a boot or some kind of cover over this part, but I can't find the right words to use in a search. It's not part of the dashboard assembly (based on much searching and reading) but is more "the part that comes out of the driver's floor behind the brake pedal and connects behind the bottom of the dashboard into the steering wheel".

I'd love some help identifying the name of this thing so I can search for it - or if anyone knows if it is supposed to have a cover so that when you turn the wheel it doesn't catch on your shoe, that'd be super helpful. It's especially annoying in the winter when wearing snow boots or larger footwear.

TIA.

That's got me much closer! Thanks.
I've found a lot of information on what to do if that bottom bushing gets loose and makes noise.. but in most of the photos I've found there is no boot. Does anyone with an xc70 of that era have a boot on that thing? or should I just consider changing the brake pedal somehow?

What don't you understand about what I said?
LOWER STEERING COLUMN BUSHING.
\Walk into a dealer, go to the parts dept, and ask for it or do I have to also get you the part number? :?:

Ok, didn't realize it would be necessary to yell at me.
I'll get out of your forum.
