Hello
The rear of my 240 GLE looks unusual because of the different wheel track between front and rear. I have been on the lookout for a set of 17inch wheels with staggered offset for it to match the rear to the front. I've not been able to find anything to do the job. My next thought is to shorten a rear end from a 740 to match. Has anyone done this before? Are the mounting brackets in the same place on the two rear ends?
Spacers are not an option here in Australia as they are illegal to use.
Thanks for your help.

At bottom of this URL, see "Technical Article Wheel Track, Brakes and Rims - by Anthony Hyde 15 /1/2008 - Featured in 'The NSW Volvo Club' newsletter (Sydney, Australia)"

Volvo even had a kit to do this, but it was not available in North America. Basically if the car oversteers, (rear end loses grip first) increasing the rear track will help. If it understeers (as 240s do), then this mod will not help. Incresing the track definately helps the look of the rear of the car though. If you're doing a bunch of
suspension mods, then this may be a necessary step in the process.

Thanks for your reply. I have investigated the spacers but they are illegal to use on the street where I live. I have already upgraded my shocks, springs and stabilizer bars and I'm quite happy with how it handles. What I'm trying to do is even out the wheel track so that it looks better. I am going to investigate the fitting of a shortened 740 rear end. If I Have any luck I'll post my finding on the site.
Thanks again.
John
