Well, it finally happened, my worst fear. Driving home last night thinking every thing was cool the motor just stops and I pull over to the curb and see coolant leaking out form the timing belt cover and motor won't turn over. Craaaaap! Finally get it apart today and sure enough the belt jumped. Almost looks like the water pump seized and then locked everything up-not sure. So am I screwed? Is it possible I lucked out and didn't bend any valves or damage pistons, or is it terminal, and should I give up now. I'm really bummed cuz I really liked my little wagon. Suggestons or tips would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advanced all.

I think the jump limit is about 3-4 teeth. If it happened while driving and it stopped the motor then you probably need all new intake valves.
If you want to fix it.
I think intake valve at local motor parts shop run about $12 to $15 per. so budget $150 for them $200 for victor reinz gasket kit. $50 for new bolts,$50 to have the head skim cut and $50 for new cam cover sealant. With your new water pump, coolant and timing kit plus the $450 above you can put it back together again. Budget some extra money as it always wants something else. Rebuilt heads from www.cylinder-heads.com seem to please many here but I have never had one my local couldn't rebuild and he will always match/beat Clearwaters price.
Clearwater is faster as you can order it before you begin so you can take off the old and put on the new same day.
I test by realigning the belt (you will need a water pump) and checking for compression . 0 compression tells the story. Zero cost option is to pull the cam cover and do a leakdown test.
Lots of threads here on it happening and the repair itself.

Whats a good way to line up both crank and cam timing marks now that they are all off due to the belt failure? I don't have a reference point by looking at the old belt/marks.
Thanks again for the tips previous.

Do you mind me asking how many miles was on your old belt and water pump?

I'm afraid to say I bought the car as salvage in 2009 and I've been telling myself I gotta get the TB changed and water pump for the last couple of months. I'm not sure how many miles since it may have been done. The odometer has been broken since I've had it and it reads 140K. I'm sure Ive put at least 20 or 30k on it since Ive had it.
The video was good only my belt was off the water pump cog and scrunched up between the cam cogs, I'm afraid the marks are out of whack cuz I was turning the crank to see if the motor was seized before I removed the time belt cover-dooooh! I
'll double check for the marks tomorrow though. Looks like this will be a learning experience.

Well, if you can get the crank sprocket lined up the cams will spin around 360 degrees. You may have to move the cams around a little at a time to get the crank on it's mark.

You can read the miles off the code box under the hood.Gilly wrote:I'm afraid to say I bought the car as salvage in 2009 and I've been telling myself I gotta get the TB changed and water pump for the last couple of months. I'm not sure how many miles since it may have been done.
