I am 'that' new guy; and I have searched and read, and read, here and around the web...
Nowhere is there a clear listing (that I have found yet) of exactly what is required to be able to access beyond the simple OBDII level. I gather that all of this is tied into the VIDA system... and that there are a dozen revisions.
Could someone that knows just spell it out clearly?
For an 06 I need exactly what?
I don't care about price at this point.
Is there an actual Shop manual that is actually for the US models?
I love this car but . . .
Thanks in Advance.

Welcome to the forum. I was that new guy m'self about three years back when I bought a low mileage greàt price s60. Coming from the VW and Honda world where nice Bentley and Honda shop manuals were available I asked myself the same questions. Looking around the web I've found those Volvo dvd's, the Chinese Vida Dice, this forum, Vadis, those Volvo memberships where you pay a lot and only get info for a specific problem and that for a limited time, etc. Not a great first impresion. Being as it may, I got my hands on a set of wiring diagrams since it looks like these cars have a weak electric heart, and the hardware is just like any other car, and I like the car, and there's this forum.

Hello,
My advice - search out the 'VIDA VMWare Image' on this forum. This is the easiest way of getting the VIDA software working, and you can takea look at all the features in it.
Then you can buy a DiCE for ~ $100 if you want (see like http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-New ... 43386.html). Or buy one now and use cheap shipping since it takes a while to arrive, in the mean-time get your VIDA software working.
You don't really care what version of VIDA you are using as your car is older, i.e. don't worry about 2012 vs 2013 vs 2014. They will all work fine, and at most there might be minor changes to any procedures. But it's 100x easier to use the 'VMWare Image' as it avoids you needing to do a somewhat complicated install on your own computer (VIDA is also a fair resource hog, and the VMWare lets you ensure it's 100% off when not in use).
Good luck!
