I need Bluetooth and I want an older Volvo S60 - what to do?

Post by neoedgeus »

So I have 2002 Volvo S60 reaching a stage in life (220k+) where it is no longer practical for me to use it as a daily driver. Ideally I would just upgrade to a the same model 5 years newer and with a lot less miles. I like the car.

I also like bluetooth. I spend a lot of time on the phone in states where it is illegal to talk and drive. Bluetooth cell phone connectivity is very attractive. I'm not very keen on the new S60 body style. In a perfect world, I would have bluetooth on an '08 or '09 S60 for calls and to play music.

My question is what is the best solution. Is there another model with solid bluetooth connectivity from the '07-'11 era that I should be considering? Is there a decent aftermarket kit? From the forum, I know there is something that can connect, but it seems a far cry in quality and aesthetics from factory systems. Or should I just go to the newer S60's and swallow my pride on the weaker styling and higher price?

You advice is appreciated.

Have you ever tried one of the on the visor models? I have a couple of Blue Ant units and they work very well. I can hear well and the person on the other end says voice quality is good as long as the defroster is not on high (blows air by the unit's mic).

Have you looked into the GROM units they sell at IPD? They direct wire into the head unit. I have one in my 2007 V70 and it works great. You can also hook up an iphone connector and/or usb.

I use a Belkin Car Audio Connect. It's an easy install if you have an aux input. I used the tape player in mine with an adapter and a dual female coupler and tucked the wires in the dash. One button connect and sounds good.
