2000 v70r transmission problems?

Post by fwchiro007 »

Hey all, I learned a bunch here in the past keeping my 98 v70glt running happily (until an unhappy encounter with a speeding ambulance) and I have the bug to get back into another v70 (it's like a sickness!) I have been watching craigslist and looked at a few, one of which was this:

It's a 2000 v70r phase 3, and I crawled all around it and it looked fairly clean (place was closed so I haven't been able to open the hood or run it yet) Having searched around here it looks the trannys are disasters waiting to happen unless meticulously maintained, I'd appreciate advice especially from the more experienced folks here.

Yeah, my thinking is that is a pie in the sky price but I was wondering if I could get that car for like 1500 if it would be worth it. It seems that based on reading MVS and v70r it would be a $4000 tranny replacement, so not looking promising

Drive it!! If the transmission does even one strange thing (especially when warm/hot) run to the hills.

The V70Rs really need a 5 or 6 speed box to fully exploit the engine power and lack of bottom end. The 2000 Rs had a 19T turbo so the 5 speed is mandatory.
Manual conversion would be my thought however not at that price!
