97 850 neutral safety switch

hey guys
just finished my manual swap (Finally!) and i have a few questions to wrap it all up.
1) is there a neutral safety switch for a standard or do i just need to make sure im in neutral before i start the car? I thought it was a law that cars needed them.
2) i did the wiring so I have back up lights and so i can start the car bypassing the PNP switch on the plug. I still have a CEL and the blinking arrow. will these go away if i take out the auto control computer? or do i need to leave it in the car?

other than that does anyone have any positive or negative reviews on brass shifter bushings and/ or short throw shifter plates?

There is no neutral or clutch safety switch on a 5 speed 850. You can, and my daughter did, start the car in gear. The flashing arrow will definitely go away along with the TCU and the CEL should unless it is unhappy about something else.
