Yup. So do I. However, I test drove a Focus wagon before my V50, and the Ford fit and finish seemed almost punitive. The V50 offres a better passenger experince all round. The engine is Volvo, I think.

Go get a Mazda3 and a Euro FOrd Focus all of the same year models and barrier crash them along with the the same year Volvo S40. You'll get an answer that will let you know that the sum of ALL the parts yields a far different vehicle.
Ford is VERY proud of having "FOMOCO" stamped on the parts they have control over. The parts with that on them may only be used on the S40/V50/C30/C70 platform and would not fit on the Ford or Mazda versions of the platform. Volvo uses many body pieces of high strength steel where the others use conventional steel roll sheet to stamp those pieces from.
