1999 v70r etm cleaned now no throttle

Post by mtngoat1976 »

I cleaned the etm and reinstalled the unit. The car starts but, I have no throttle when stepping on the gas. The check engine light came on and when at ideal the rpm varied before cleaning . I am guessing the etm is done and i need a new one.

By codes, I meant have you had the codes that are set when the check engine light illuminates read yet? If so, please post the alpha-numeric codes. That makes it much easier for members to offer advice as to what might actually be going on. Without any codes specified, we're shooting in the dark.

I did not have the codes ready. I did unplug the the etm and made sure connection was good. First round I did not leave the key in the ignition for 10 min to let the cpu understand were the TPS was. I did this last night and then let the car run for 20 mins and seems to be working great. I then took it out for a drive and car cut out no code but opened hood and heard a high pitch sound. Moving the wire harness to ETM sound went away but heard a click sound if moving the harness around and sound would come back. I will try to stable the harness tonight and try it again and let you know.

Who on Earth told you to leave the key in PosII to have the ECU relearn the TPS position for a 99 model ?

That method only applies to the 2002 and on turbo Bosch units.

You can power the ETM harness by using one of the positives from the injector wire harness as a trigger through a relay and power up the large green wire on the ETM harness. Check earths on the engine block.

The main relay for the ETM is under the kidney shaped fuse box. Some 99s use the white air pump relay for ETM power.
