Seeking Advice - Best Factory HU For 850?
I'd like to replace my SC-815, as its getting a little wonky and possessed. I'd like to incorporate one of the factory amps, as well as an Infinity basslink I've got laying around from another vehicle. What's the best quality and most versatile Volvo head unit that will slide right into an 850? I've got some decent junkyards around that should provide plenty of opportunities to find whatever I need.

A SC901 is plug and play but it needs an amp to work.

Thanks, Lee. Are the 901s inherently any more unreliable than any of the other units? I ask because of the built-in changer. I've read good things about the sound quality though. I hope I can find the head unit, amp and Dolby module at the junkyard, but maybe that's a longshot.

The CD part on the 901 has some issues but then again the SC815/816 have CD issues as well. The great thing about the SC901 is the hidden EQ menu and the fact that it doesn't have the 10 db bump at 70 Hz like the SC815/816s have. On those head units you are just stuck with the base EQ curve that they built into it.
I have yet to see one in a Pick-N-Pull but they come up on the classifieds here from time to time.

I actually did find a setup in the classifieds this morning, and went ahead and pulled the trigger. The CD reliability isn't a deal breaker, even though its what's bugging me about the 815, among other things. I plan on trying to install an auxiliary input for a cheapy mp3 player anyway. I lost a big chunk of CDs (90+) about twelve-thirteen years ago, when one of my previous cars was broken into, so I don't use the CD player too much anymore. Thanks for your guidance, Lee. I appreciate it.
