Head cleaner?

Hello everyone,

I am getting a headgasket work for my S80, got the head back from the machine shop, as you see in the picture, it looks dirty, especially the middle one where the leak was, a friend of mine suggested to use elbow grease to clean, does anybody else have any other suggestion to clean it out?

It seems there is a trip to the machine shop involved every time I have a head off so that I can get it decked. I don't know exactly what they use but they come back from the machine shop spotless.

Use a small hand haled wire brush. Harbor freight has a pack that look like like tooth brushes.

Just a note: cleaning the combustion chamber spotless is the equivalent of polishing the rubber cleats on the underside of your running shoes before putting them on to go walk in the mud.

Depending on the level of work and also on the OCD level of the machine shop, the head could be put in a washer cabinet or just blown clean with air. I use a shop where clean up is an extra charge for many tasks and is mandatory and included for things like valve seat replacement and valve guide replacement.
