My 2008 S80 T6 was getting very hard to start sometimes taking more than 5 tries to get her running.
I solved this issue by cleaning the throttle body.
I removed the plastic intake manifold with the throttle body still attached, flipped it over and used throttle body cleaner and a rag to get all the gunk out.
Which connectors needed to be undone in order to clean it? Hard starts are not often attributed to.a dirty TB bore. This would more often give you flat spots in the rev range.
Current cars VW Transporter 2.5TDI, 2010 XC90 D5 R Design
I had to remove about five connectors to remove the intake.
I found the problem using VIDA using the graph and adding the throttle plate angle reading with about ten other thing like fuel pump pressure ect. When warm, the car would start, rev up then die. I watched the graph and had my son keep hitting the start button and when it finally started I noticed the throttle plate moved. It was stuck in gunk I guess.
No problems now, quick fix, disconnect the battery, remove the obvious connectors, the hard one is on the throttle body, and I had to cut a tie wrap on one and remove the one at the end of the fuel rail. Remove the big air hose, remove the 7 bolts for the intake, take it to the bench and clean with throttle body cleaner and a rag.
