1989 760 exhaust smell in HVAC during acceleratio

Nasty fumes through HVAC when engine is under load, either going up a steep incline or during hard acceleration. I suspect a possible leak in a vacuum line or diaphram but this is just a guess. Probably not related, the cruise control only works intermittently and will disengage itself. Suggestions? Thanks and regards, Jackson

Is an exhaust leak possible? My 740 has a leak at the manifold and I can smell the fumes anytime I drive it.
