2004 V70R Wont start after CVVT hub replacement

Post by CamZH »

Hi Guys,
I've spent a lot of time today helping a friend with his V70R.
We've replaced his CVVT hubs as they had excessive play.

After replacing them and trying to follow the confusing instructions in VIDA we can't get the car to start.
We tried using 2 methods of setting the timing, 1st was marking where the gears were on the hub and putting the hubs back on in the same spot.
2nd we tried using the twist counter-clockwise, then clockwise, adjust, etc from VIDA

We can crank the car over by hand, and did this several times before trying to start as we are a bit paranoid about valve to piston contact.
VIDA shows no codes when trying to start.
I would expect that if the timing was out that VIDA would throw a code for for CAM timing.

Does anyone have any pointers ?
We're going to do some A/B comparisons with my S60 tomorrow morning.

cheers,
