Volvo Repair Database Service light reset tool. Anyone know of this?

Post by scot850 »

While browsing on line (as you do) I came across this tool that claims to reset various functions on older and newer Volvos for a reasonable price. It even claims to reset the service light on a 98!

Anyone seen this or have experience of it?

Have no experience with this tool, but I reset the service lights on my C70 and S80 following a few simple manual steps (turn ignition to position I, hold odometer reset button down, turn ignition to II for X seconds, release after light blinks at least five times, that sort of thing as found here and on other forums) and that works perfectly. Then a few weeks ago I bought an iCarsoft i906 OBD scanner, code reader and re-setter and that's a great tool that probably also resets the service light (haven't tried it yet but it resets other messages so imagine it also does the service light one).

98 Volvos are not able to have the service light reset like 99 and on, or up to 95 850's. You have to use a service tool. I'm sure to be corrected, but even Vida does not work for 98. If I recall correctly the software is called something like VOL-FCR (?).

I see claims of several tools from out of China that claim to work on this year, but haven't spent the money to try them to prove a point.

If you try your new tool on a 98 S/V70 and it works, let us know.

Thanks for the offer Matthew. Problem is that living up here in Canada the shipping cost gets silly very quickly, which makes buying the tool cheaper in the long run. I am talking to a guy selling an old AST, and he quoted $22.50 US (Canada $ is 80c to the US$ just now), so even buying it from him gets expensive quickly.

I believe AST no longer exist, and can't find the tool. I saw a company in Australia (Eurosoft or something like that) that claimed to have a similar tool, but can't seem to find a web page for them that allows you to buy it.

That was why I looked into this tool and what else is available. Also considering the VOL-FCR route and VAG COM cable if/when I eventually get Vida 2014A running.

I removed the service light completely from the cluster when I did the odometer fix.

It's not a legit solution, but it does the job. To me it was useless anyway. :)

Take out the bulb and never look back. It adds zero value or utility.
