Hi Guys,
The aluminum housing that clamps around the top of the steering column tube and and serves as a mount for the turnsig, ign and wiper switches is loose. It appears that the factory installs with some kind of breakaway screws. It is irritating as the ign/turn and wiper arms and key move around when operated.
I was thinking of installing a couple of socket head screws into the housing and tube to lock them together rather than trying to drill the factory breakaway screws unless someone has a better idea.
Of course I'm in there trying to troubleshoot the cruise not working.
Thanks, Gary

Fortunately (for me) I've never had to mess with the ignition key cylinder on my 70 series cars but we have a writeup on removing the shear bolts without drilling them out.

I would be a bit hesitant to run a screw into the steering column since there are some very tight tolerances in there.

Thanks Lee. The link and associated photos were helpful. So now I know that the round locating index is worn and for some reason the clamping action of the housing has lost it's grip. I'll just replace the screws and maybe slip some shim stock inbetween the tube and the housing.

Just a quick update. No way the punch is going to unscrew the breakaway bolts. Currently die grinding/rotary filing the heads off to remove bolts or may tig a bolt on top of head to remove. One bolt was not torqued all the way down from the factory and consequently the lose housing. What a mess. may have to replace the ign housing ass. Will replace with a button head bolt.
Thanks Again, Gary
