2000 V70 T5 honest opinions- looking at buying.

Post by Locky2001V70 »

hi all,
Our 2001 v70 2.4 has retired due to total transmission failure. ( 3rd gear lost and now transmission fluid leaking- bands not grabbing any gears).
Anyway -we loved this car for its superb drive and practicality with kids and general moving around.
I have the opportunity to buy a MY2001 V70 T5 at a good price.

I'm looking for owners opinions on this car/engine etc.

I believe this car has the Geartronic transmission. I know it's not the 5 speed Auto, so that should eliminate the issues we had with our 2.4.

Is there any issues I may I counter?

I have VIDA and will be keeping our 2.4 for spares where they can be used.

Thanks all!!

No feedback from anyone?

I guess all I really want to know is, will I be getting into any worse of territory over my previous 2.4?

Any issues with turbo over NA etc.
Cheers

Thanks JRL, decided to avoid any 2001 models after much reading on here and other forums.

Going to look at a nice low km MY05 V70 2.5T tomorrow- full books, new tyres and very tidy interior.
I'm hoping a 2005 should be less- problematic and more reliable.

I'll let you'll know how it pans out.

Your post says 2000 hence no replies.

I have posted on the 2001 tranny. Regarding your current car. Look at the B4 servo, easy to check. Check your tranny fluid color and smell. Drain tranny fluid and look for metal. If you had no grinding and find no metal I wager you need only do B4 servo ($30) and or valve body rebuild $150.00 to get your current car working. Add in cost of new tranny fluid.

Look up my other posts. I do not think the 2001 tranny is bad. It suffers from gummed up valve body solenoids and the B4 servo failure. The 2005 has the same tranny for the most part w an updated valve body which uses updated solenoids. Had Volvo put a magnetic filter on the line and had this and the tranny fluid changed at 50k intervals the AW55/50 tranny would be problem free until 300k.

Hi SuperHerman, thanks for reply.
Yes it is a 2001 year model sorry. 2000 Build date.

I have done the B4 servo cover and 2 transmission fluid changes with no luck.
Bought the DICE Vida as well and it's seems to be a failed valve body.

Not much luck of repair I feel as it's been left too long- I may have attempt a valve body rebuild at some stage with a rebuild kit.

Any way good news is we purchased the 2004 model that I looked at.
It's a V70 2.5T with plenty of optional extras, sunroof, full electrics, heated seats. 17 inch Thor Thor wheels suit the black paint nicely.

Very good condition body and engine/transmission.
Lows Km's and full Log Book service history by a Volvo Dealer.
Brand new Pirelli p7's are super grippy.

I'll post up some pics later.
