08 xc90 strut replacement parts help

Post by walleye vision »

So my wife hit a pothole and bent the right front strut and knuckle. I've found a used knuckle for $93 vs $400 new, but my main question is about the strut replacement. The shop I took the car to couldn't find a strut locally so they had to call the dealer for parts. They quoted $450 for a pair of struts, but said we also needed to buy a pair of 'foam helpers' for the struts at $32/ea. Now I'll find the struts on my own, but what the hell do they mean by 'foam helpers?' Do you think they meant strut mount bushings? Should I be ok just swapping out struts or are there other components that should be replaced as well?

Thanks for that...but I still don't know what parts are necessary to replace with the strut, if any.

How many miles on existing suspension components?

You will be safer on the highway with all suspension parts replaced -- fastners too.
OEM parts could be little less, but not much.
A big saving if you are a DIYer and keeping it for another 50,000+ miles.
