05 Xc70 tranny issues

It seems as though whenever I apply throttle in reverse my transmission goes into what I can only call a "limp mode" the R is replaced by - on the dashboard and it shifts like I have it in winter mode. I drove it all day today without issue until I went to back out of the driveway to reposition the car in the driveway, I used a medium amount of throttle in reverse and it did it. Any ideas?
